Narrabeen Sports High School Baseball Academy - 2019 Trials 15
MARCH 2018

Dear Parents/Athletes

As you may be aware Narrabeen Sports High School (NSHS) re-introduced baseball into the Sports Academy in 2017. The Sports Academy program is embedded into the framework and curriculum of Narrabeen Sports High School, and it is open to any student enrolled at the school. As the school is a Selective Sports High School it means that any student living in Northern Sydney may apply for enrolment. The focus of the Academy is to afford elite, and emerging elite athletes an environment for academic and social development, whilst acknowledging, and assisting with the development of, the individual training and competition demands in a chosen sport. The Academy operates in unison with the academic and social framework of the school curriculum, and it actively promotes the physical, social and educational value of sport in assisting with the development of a student.

The focus of the Academy program is to provide an atmosphere conducive to students that have a desire to hone their baseball skills in conjunction with their academic endeavours.  As the Head Coach, my focus will be on improving skill development, the mental aspects of the game as well as improving knowledge of nutrition, strength and conditioning & recovery protocols for athletic performance.  I aim to work with the student-athletes’ current coaches (be that club, state or national team) with the focus on taking them from their current level (whatever that may be) to the next.

A personal long-term goal of mine is to improve the number of players and the overall standard of baseball in the Northern Beaches area.  I believe that the re-introduction of the Baseball Academy is a significant step forward for both junior and senior baseball in the area, and I am embracing the opportunity to start the next chapter of the NSHS Baseball Academy.

A lot has happened in the first year or so:

  • The baseball program currently has over 20 students enrolled
  • The Academy program has been recognised and endorsed as a Player Development Program by Baseball NSW
  • We have recently built batting cages on the school grounds so that we can train in fully enclosed baseball specific cages
  • 3 of the current senior students are representatives of the Manly State League team that recently won the U18's championship

A solid start for the first year or so of having the baseball program up and running.  With Year 2 of the NSHS Baseball Academy program in full swing, the trials for the 2019 intake of student-athletes is just around the corner.  Below is the necessary information for future student-athletes and their parents.

Who should apply?
