Grand Final opponents decided as Pittwater stun Redbacks
5 March 2018
Another tense game at Aquatic Reserve on Saturday saw Pittwater claim a stunning upset over the Redbacks to make their way into the Grand Final against the Big Dogs.
Despite claiming the Minor Premiership, the Redbacks struggled without injured starter Ben Logue on the mound and once again Pittwater jumped out to an early 4-0 lead.
The Redbacks pegged them back to 4-4 going into the final few innings, but some clutch hitting by Dan Cox (solo home run and a 2 RBI single) helped Pittwater extend their lead to 9-4 going into the bottom of the 7th.
The Redbacks once again mounted a strong comeback, eventually falling just short and losing 9-7, with the 8th run tagged out at home after a magnificent throw from Pittwater centrefielder Matt Monty to end the game.
So the Cinderella story continues for the Pittwater team as they make the Grand Final from 3rd place and look to erase the scars of last season’s one run Grand Final defeat to the Hornets.
It all comes down to this: Big Dogs vs Pittwater at Aquatic Reserve at 2pm this Saturday (10th March).
Big Dogs through to Grand Final as Pittwater edge the Forest Brewers
26 February 2018
It was a day for hitters but definitely not pitchers in the scorching heat at Aquatic Reserve as the Summer League finals got underway this afternoon.
In the Major Semi Final, the Big Dogs came out swinging to post a 9 run first inning and pile on a further 10 runs in the 2nd to blow out to a 19-3 lead. The Redbacks refused to give up, mounting a stunning comeback but ultimately falling short (20-17). The Big Dogs are through to the Grand Final.
In the Elimination Semi Final, the Forest Brewers gave up 7 first innings runs as the Pittwater bats also came out firing. A fine rearguard was mounted, but ultimately they left themselves too much to do, going down 8-6. Pittwater advance to the Elimination Final next week.
Join us at Aquatic Reserve at 2pm next Saturday as the Redbacks and Pittwater go head to head in the Elimination Final for the right to play the Big Dogs in the Grand Final.
Special thanks to the MWBU umpires who backed up after their junior finals commitments to work through the senior finals. Your efforts as always, are greatly appreciated.
