Morgan's Business for Good Project: Give a Child Blindness Prevention in Kenya

Blindness, the most severe form of visual impairment, can reduce people’s ability to perform daily tasks, and move about unaided - affecting their quality of life and ability to interact with the surrounding world.

Vitamin A deficiency is the leading cause of preventable childhood blindness. About 250,000 to 500,000 malnourished children in the developing world go blind each year from a deficiency of vitamin A, around half of whom die within a year of becoming blind.

Vitamin A deficiency also diminishes the ability to fight infections. Even a mild deficiency can increase children's risk of developing respiratory and diarrhoea infections, decrease growth rate, slow bone development, and decrease likelihood of survival from serious illness. Ensuring that a young child has optimal nutrition, health, care and stimulation during the first five years of life gives them the best chance to reach their full potential throughout childhood and into adulthood.
